Tehran’s Daily Newspaper Review
Tehran’s newspapers on Monday 29th of Azar 1389; December 20, 2010.
Persepolis, Iran’s most popular soccer team and once the apple of Iranian soccer’s eye, is at its ebb. Iran’s most successful club on the domestic stage has been defeated in five successive games and allowed 13 goals. The 4-1 defeat by Saba Battery finally forced Persepolis’ coach, Ali Daei, legendary soccer player and the world’s all-time leading goal-scorer to resign. Persepolis’ archrival, Esteghlal, was also taken down a peg by Foulad FC, Ahwaz’ second popular club.
Reverberations of the Purposeful Subsidies’ enforcement continue in the Iranian media and the new, ‘real’ price of fuel has been announced by the government. Ahmadinejad dismissed another member of his cabinet, his once close companion Mehrdad Bazrpash, from his position in the minor department of National Organization for Youth.
