Tehran Daily Headlines
Tehran newspaper headlines were dominated by the news of a meeting between Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Judiciary officials today. Other newspapers, however, focused on Ahmadinejad’s press conference, which was held yesterday, June 28, 2010. During the event, the President announced Iran’s terms and conditions for the resumption of the nuclear negotiations. Also, in response to the Iranian opposition group Mojahedin-e-Khalgh organization’s (MKO) rally in Paris on June 27th, families of the victims of MKO terrorist attacks (carried out mostly in the early 1980s) gathered in front of the French Embassy in protest.

Hamshahri is the official daily newspaper of Tehran’s Municipality. Its general directions in politics, culture and economy are determined by the mayor of Tehran, currently Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
Kayhan is a hard-line conservative newspaper. Its editor-in-chief –currently Hossein Shari’atmadari- is appointed by Iran’s Supreme Leader. Shari’atmadari’s editorials often spark off controversy and debate inside Iranian political circles.
Resalat belongs to the moderate wing of the principlist camp. Resalat’s best known anlayst is Amir Mohebbian, its political editor.
Tehran-e Emrooz is a ‘principlist reformist’ newspaper, connected to Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf.
Shargh is a moderate reformist newspaper. It was the most popular and influential reformist newspaper in its first period of publication which lasted from August 2003 until September 2006.
Vatan-e Emrooz -which started its publication in November 2008-, belongs to Mehrdad Bazrpash, the thirty-old pro-Ahmadinejad politician who is also head of Iran’s second largest auto manufacturer company, Saipa. Vatan-e Emrooz is a supporter of the president’s policies.
* Sazman-e Sanjesh-e Amouzesh-e Keshvar (Organization for Evaluation of National Education) is a governmental department affiliated with the Ministry of Higher Education and in charge of holding national university admission examinations at undergraduate and graduate levels.
