West Should Change Its Language
Interview with Alla-e-din Borujerdi, Head of the Iranian parliament’s committee of foreign policy
The Islamic Republic of Iran welcomes constructive dialogue and interaction and it will deliver its updated package in near future. Iran’s official declaration, which was a response to the latest communiqué released by six world powers, has called for dialogue as the solution to international problems. Iran has also added that the declaration released by world powers is far from new developments and stands against mutual respect.
Iranian Diplomacy has interviewed Alla-e-din Borujerdi, Head of the Iranian parliament’s committee of national security and foreign policy on the upcoming negotiations and the strategy each side is going to adopt. Following comes the excerpt:
United States’ Deputy Secretary of State attended the last meeting in Geneva in which we put our package forward. However, West has not reached a conclusion afterwards and hasn’t yet responded to our proposals. Significant developments have taken place since then and it was necessary for us to modify and update the package.
However, the basis of our talks with 5+1 is a package which concerns Middle East’s security issues, Europe’s demands, energy, nuclear disarmament, fight against terrorism, drug trafficking and many other issues which are a mutual concern of Iran and the six powers. Common interests can be a firm basis to start negotiations. In fact, the possibility of an agreement between the seven countries sitting at the table is high.
Head of the foreign policy committee also commented on United States’ participation in direct talks and its effects. Borujerdi believes that it all depends on U.S. policies. Iran now possesses the technology of manufacturing fuel rods, which the last link in the technology of a nuclear fuel cycle.
Therefore, Borujerdi stresses, United States must use a different language and suspension of uranium enrichment could not be a condition anymore. Final agreement is at reach if United States changes its rhetoric.
Iran is following a constructive approach in these negotiations according to Borujerdi. Otherwise, the Iranian Council of National Security would not welcome the talks.
