Raeisi lauds Iraqi law against normalizing ties with Israel
Making the remarks in a phone conversation with Iraqi Prime Minister Mustafa al-Kadhimi on Sunday, Raeisi expressed satisfaction with the progress of the Iraqi people’s move and the interactions among the Arab state’s political groups and currents to form a new government, Tasnim News Agency reported.
He described as a right move the passing of the law to forbid the normalization of relations with the Zionist regime in the Iraqi parliament.
Turning to the air pollution problems caused by dust storms and the influx of fine dust particles into Iranian and Iraqi cities, Raeisi said, “Climate change is not specific to a particular country and crosses borders. Today, tackling the swarm of dust particles has become a common regional demand, and all countries in the region are expected to fulfill their responsibilities in this regard.”
Emphasizing that the development of transportation routes between the two countries will contribute to the region’s economic growth and stability, the Iranian president stressed the need to speed up construction of the railway lines connecting Iran and Iraq.
Raeisi also called for facilitating the presence of Iranian pilgrims in Iraq in view of the approaching days for the Arbaeen march.
Kadhimi thanked the Iranian president for praising the Iraqi parliament’s decision to prohibit the normalization of relations with the Zionist regime, saying, “Palestine is not just an issue for Muslims, but all justice-seeking people in the world. The Iraqi government and parliament have also taken a series of decisions and actions in support of the Palestinian people.”
He added that he will seriously pursue the removal of obstacles to accelerate the construction of the Basra-Shalamcheh railway.
The Iraqi PM said, “Dealing with the dust problem should be followed in the form of an MoU.”
Commenting on the Arbaeen procession, Kadhimi noted that he has urged Iraqi officials to prepare a detailed plan for holding the ceremony and provide a hospitable framework for Iranian pilgrims.
The Iranian president and the Iraqi prime minister also stressed the importance of expanding regional cooperation, describing the implementation of pacts as the key to the progress and development of cooperation.
