Foreign Ministry urges remaining Iranians to leave Ukraine

The Iranian Foreign Ministry called on the country’s nationals residing in Ukrainian cities or villages to immediately leave the European state through its common borders with Romania, Moldova, Hungary, Slovakia, or Poland. 

Announcing this in a Wednesday statement, the ministry added although all Ukraine-based Iranian students and residents had previously been requested to leave the country in view of the military developments unfolding there, a small number of them have not yet left the European state, IRNA reported.

In addition, Iran’s Ambassador to Kiev Manouchehr Moradi, in a video, announced that all Iranian nationals in Ukraine are completely unharmed.

He added the embassy will continue its activities and services until the very last remaining Iranians are sent back to the country.

Moradi said since the beginning of the crisis in Ukraine, the embassy’s round-the-clock efforts and activities have been solely focused on supporting and protecting the Iranian nationals, helping them leave the European state, and monitoring the developments and providing timely reports on the situation.

He called on the Iranian nationals who are still in Ukrainian cities to take shelter in safe havens or move toward the western parts of the country to leave it.

The ambassador said at present, common border with Poland is more crowded than those with Hungary, Romania, or Moldova.

He assured that Iranian embassies in neighboring states are prepared for providing services to the country’s nationals.

Last Thursday, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a “special military operation” aimed at “demilitarization” and “denazification” of Ukraine, supporting the residents of Donetsk and Lugansk regions in eastern Ukraine, according to Press TV.

The regions broke away from Ukraine in 2014 after refusing to recognize a Western-backed Ukrainian government that had overthrown a democratically-elected Russia-friendly administration.

Announcing the operation, Putin said the mission was aimed at “defending people who, for eight years, have been suffering persecution and genocide by the Kiev regime”.
