Russian deputy FM to visit Iran next week
Prior to Bogdanov’s visit to Tehran, Iran’s Ambassador in Moscow Kazem Jalali had a phone conversation on Friday with the Russian senior diplomat who also serves as the Special Representative of the President of Russia for the Middle East.
According to IRNA the two discussed bilateral ties, regional cooperation between Iran and Russia and the ongoing developments in Syria.
Special Representative of the President of Russia for Syria Alexander Lavrentiev and Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin paid a visit to Tehran last week and met with Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian.
Lavrentiev arrived in the Iranian capital Tehran after visiting Syria and holding talks with top officials including Assad.
During his meeting with Lavrentiev, which was held on November 21, the Iranian FM stressed that Iran and Russia can repeat their “successful” cooperation in the fight against terrorism in Syria to help reconstruct the Arab country.
Iran and Russia were the main supporters of the government of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad and played a major role to help the Syrian Army militarily to defeat foreign-backed militant and terrorist groups waging a war on the Arab country since 2011.
