Iran, Jordan Discuss Bilateral Ties, Regional Developments

(FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Jordanian counterpart Nasser Judeh in a meeting in Tehran on Saturday discussed bilateral ties and regional developments.

During the meeting in the Iranian capital today, Zarif and Judeh underlined the need for the two countries' cooperation in combating Takfiri terrorists.

The Iranian and Jordanian foreign ministers also discussed the upcoming meeting of the Iran-Jordan joint economic cooperation commission which is scheduled to be held in Tehran in April.

The Jordanian foreign minister, heading a high-ranking political delegation, arrived in Tehran on Friday night.

Last month, Secretary of Iran's Expediency Council Mohsen Rezayee and Jordanian Ambassador to Tehran Abdullah Sulaiman Abdullah Abu Romman called on the regional nations to grow more united against terrorism and extremism, specially the ISIL.

“The military forces of the Muslim countries can eradicate the ISIL’s scourge and we see no need for the military interference of foreign forces in Muslim territories,” said Rezayee in a meeting with the Jordanian envoy.

The Iranian official also touched upon the brutal murder of a Jordanian pilot by the ISIL militants, saying such actions will only precipitate the terrorist groups’ downfall.

“This deed has aroused the feelings of Muslims and the world’s people against the ISIL terrorist group… ISIL thought it could instill fright and terror in the fighters’ hearts by portraying the cold-blooded murder of a pilot. This is while this incident broke the Muslims’ hearts and reinforced the Muslims’ will to eradicate this Takfiri group,” Rezayee went on to say.

The Jordanian ambassador, for his part, expressed his gratitude to the Iranian nation and government for their condemnation of the pilot’s killing.

He further added that the regional countries will ultimately triumph over the ISIL ideology in this military and cultural war.
