Iran, Russia Discuss Defense Ties
During the meeting in the Iranian capital today, the Iranian and Russian defense ministers explored avenues for the further development of defense cooperation,
General Dehqan and General Shoigu are slated to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defense and military cooperation.
Shoigu arrived in Tehran on Monday night for a two-day visit at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart.
In October 2013, Brigadier General Dehqan underlined the necessity for the development of defense relations and cooperation between Tehran and Moscow, calling it as an important contributor to the strengthening of stability and security in the region and the world.
Dehqan had made the remarks in response to a message by his Russian counterpart who had felicitated him on his appointment as Iran’s new defense minister.
In his message, Dehqan had stressed Russia’s special position in Iran’s foreign policy, and said continued defense cooperation between the two countries is a major contributor to consolidation of regional and global stability and security.
Shoigu had also in his message underscored Russia’s willingness to expand friendly relations with Iran in various defense sectors.
