US mistakes spreading terror in Mideast
A senior Iranian lawmaker says strategic mistakes by the United States and its allies have led to the spread of terrorism in the Middle East, warning that such policies threaten global peace.
In a Sunday meeting with Italy’s new Ambassador to Tehran Mauro Conciatori, Chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran’s Majlis Alaeddin Boroujerdi said the current crises plaguing some Middle Eastern states are the outcome of the strategic mistakes by the US and its allies.
“Dividing terrorism into ‘good’ and ‘bad’ has led to the creation and spread of terrorist groups in the region and such a policy has endangered regional and international security,” added the Iranian legislator.
The Italian envoy, in turn, described the Islamic Republic as an influential player in regional developments, saying Rome believes that the current terror threats in the Middle East cannot be contained without Iran’s assistance.
The comments come as the ISIL terrorists have terrorized and killed people of all communities in the areas they have under control in Iraq and Syria.
Elsewhere in the meeting, the two officials discussed the progress of ongoing nuclear negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 states – Russia, China, France, Britain, the US and Germany.
Conciatori expressed hope that a final deal on Iran’s nuclear program could further strengthen bilateral relations between Tehran and Rome.
Boroujerdi also slammed the US-led sanctions imposed against Tehran over its civilian nuclear work, saying such illegal bans can never force the Iranian nation to retreat from its “legitimate” rights to have peaceful nuclear technology.
Iran and the six states are working to reach a permanent accord aimed at ending the longstanding dispute on Tehran’s nuclear issue as a November 24 deadline draws near.
