FM Stresses Bright Future of Iran-Poland Historical Relations

(FNA)- Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message to a conference marking the 540th anniversary of Iran-Poland diplomatic relations underlined the two countries' many historical commonalities, and said a bright horizon is foreseeable for both states.

"The behavioral traits shared by the Iranian and Polish nations such as resistance against aggression, tolerating hardships, and independence- and justice-seeking are shining in both nations' historical background," Zarif said in his message on Sunday.

He reiterated that a bright future is awaiting the two countries' bilateral ties.

A conference marking the 540th anniversary of Iran-Poland diplomatic ties opened in Tehran earlier today.

The event is held by the foreign ministry in cooperation with the Polish Embassy in Tehran.

Iranian Culture and Islamic Guidance Minister Ali Jannati, Polish deputy culture and national heritage minister, a number of Iranian and Polish researchers are due to address the meeting about various topics such as history of Iran-Poland ties, Iran-Poland ties in era of globalization, scientific, cultural and artistic cooperation and commercial and economic opportunities in Iran and Poland.

Meanwhile, an exhibition of historical documents featuring Iran-Poland bilateral ties since the Safavid era as well as relevant books is underway on the sidelines of the conference.

Diplomatic ties between Iran and Poland started in the 17th century and several large institutions for Oriental studies are now active in Poland.

Iranians hosted 100,000 Polish and provided them with welfare facilities during the Second World War after Germany occupied the East European country.

Ties between the two friendly countries of Iran and Poland are growing and the two sides are seeking to bolster relations in all arenas.
