Iranian deputy FM arrives in Pakistan for talks
A senior Iranian Foreign Ministry official has travelled to Pakistan to hold talks with the country’s high-ranking officials over the issues of bilateral and regional significance.
Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister for Asia and Pacific Affairs Ebrahim Rahimpour arrived in the Pakistani capital, Islamabad, on Monday morning for an official one-day visit.
During his stay, Rahimpour is slated to meet with a number of senior Pakistani authorities, including Foreign Secretary Aizaz A. Chaudhry, Interior Secretary Shahid Khan and Sartaj Aziz, the adviser to Pakistan’s Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on national security and foreign affairs.
The Iranian official and his Pakistani sides will discuss the latest regional developments as well as the recent border incidents pertaining to the frontiers of the two neighboring states.
Rahimpour’s visit comes days after Iran summoned Pakistani Ambassador to Tehran Noor Mohammad Jadmani over a series of terrorist incidents that killed several Iranian guards at the Pakistani border.
In the latest border clashes, two Iranian border police officers were killed and several others injured in an armed conflict with a group of bandits at Iran-Pakistan border on October 16.
Iran has repeatedly criticized its eastern neighbors for failing to rein in terrorists who cross the borders back into these countries after carrying out their attacks on Iranian soil.
