Iran plans to build modern hospital in Oman

Iran plans to establish the most modern hospital in the Persian Gulf Cooperation Council (PGCC) region in Oman, Iranian Ambassador to Muscat Ali Akbar Sibeveih has said.

The 400-bed hospital would be equipped with the latest medical facilities and would receive patients from Oman, other PGCC countries and beyond, Ambassador Sibeveih told Times of Oman.

All types of surgical operations would be performed at this multi-speciality hospital, he said. "A hotel will also be built in the complex."

According to the ambassador, specialists from Iran would comprise 80 percent of the cadre and the rest would be Iranian specialists based in the United States and the United Kingdom.   

He added that the hospital would be completed in three years time.

The project will benefit Iran, Oman and the entire region and the humanitarian aspect of this plan should be highlighted, he noted. 

Iran is very popular with Omanis seeking medical treatment. Iranian embassy officials said that around 5,000 Omanis visited Iran in 2012 to seek treatment, especially eye surgeries and a third of Iranian visas issued in Muscat are for medical tourism.

The ambassador also said that Iran plans to establish two factories in Oman for producing special types of medicine, including medicines for cancer treatment. 

The agreements will be made within six months, he said, adding that the project would help further strengthen relations between the two friendly countries.
