Rafsanjani: President’s success in UN ‘a divine blessing’
The former Iranian president made the remark speaking for a group of family members of martyrs in Jamaran Hosseiniyeh (where the late Imam Khomeini – P- used to address the people).
He added, “The Iranian nation’s resistance and Jihad (sacred war) in various fields, particularly in sacred defense (against Saddam’s imposed war) had their effect and God’s blessings and victory, as promised in the Glorious Qur’an, was granted to the Iranian nation.”
Ayatollah Rafsanjani said, “We see that the US President, Mr. Obama asks for a meeting with our president, but our president says that the time has not come yet for such a meeting, asking for a time for the required prerequisites for such an encounter to be done in advance.”
He emphasized that if we would be a little patient, eventual victory, which has been promised by Almighty Allah, would soon become more tangible and come true.
The chairman of the Expediency Council seriously criticized the performance of the Iranian government in the course of the past eight years.
He said, “If the acts committed in those eight years, which we ourselves paved the ground for their occurrence, did not exist, we would have been one of the advanced countries in the world today, because with the immense amount of wealth that the country could have (invested wisely) and taking advantage of lots of talents and manpower, Iran would have emerged as a top country in the world.”
Rafsanjani also talked about his memories of the Iraqi imposed war, the braveries of the combatants of Islam, and some war-related rumors, including one on some Arab countries’ proposal for paying the fine for Saddam Hussain’s beginning of the war and the war damages, as it was published in a newspaper of the time.
He said, “No such thing was proposed by any Arab country and that was a baseless claim.”
