Iranian MP criticizes European Parliament’s double standards

Tehran Times - Iranian MP Zohreh Elahian has written a letter to European Parliament President Jerzy Buzek criticizing the European Parliament for adopting a double-standard approach toward the issue of terrorism.

Following is the text of Elahian’s letter, which was released on Monday:

In today’s world, terrorism is posing a threat to international peace and security, and the world’s countries have made international and regional efforts to adopt effective methods to combat terrorism through drawing up documents. However, unfortunately, the inconsistent performance of and the partial implementation of documents and commitments in regard to the campaign against terrorism by certain European countries is an impediment to the implementation of the documents.

Along these lines, the esteemed Iranian nation, as one of the greatest victims of terrorist actions, has this question from the European Parliament that why certain terrorist groups have always enjoyed the material and moral support of the parliament. Is the European Parliament not committed to the implementation of the United Nations (Security Council) Resolution 1373, which calls for suppressing financing terrorists?

It is a matter of dismay that the European Parliament has not adopted any particular stance toward the assassinations of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s intellectuals and has not condemned them. And although the key role of the Israeli regime in the recent assassinations has been proved, this regime has always been supported by European countries.

There is no doubt that the time has come for the parliament to make serious and practical efforts to combat terrorism by (implementing) the ratified documents and adopted strategies and show its determination to the world’s people in this regard through avoiding double standards in practice.
