Palestinian Prisoners’ Paintings on Show At Iranian Festival

Cultural Heritage News - A selection of paintings created by Palestinian prisoners held captive by the Zionists are on show at the ongoing Iran’s International Arts Festival of Resistance.

The artworks were created under extremely difficult circumstances with a minimum of materials on pieces of paper or textiles reflecting the prisoners’ feelings and emotions, jury member Gholmali Taheri told the Persian service of IRNA on Monday.

The Saba Art and Cultural Institute and the Palestine Museum of Contemporary Art are playing host to the second edition of the festival in different sections.

“Part of the works on display was chosen from among the workshops during the trip I made to Lebanon,” Taheri said.

He added that other works include those by artists from Italy, Norway, the Netherlands, Sudan, and Palestine that have been borrowed from private collectors in Lebanon.

Works by Iranian masters and novices created in different workshops across Tehran and other provinces are also on show.

Most of the paintings focus on the central theme of the Islamic awakening in the region, and the final winners will be selected from among the 300 entries to the competition section during the last days of the festival, Taheri added.

The festival, which opened on November 21, will be running for one month at both venues located on Mozaffar St., off Taleqani Ave. near Felestin Square.
