Iran team to probe Rezaei's death in UAE
PRESS TV - The family of Ahmad Rezaei, the son of a senior Iranian official, has setup a fact-finding team to probe into the suspicious death of their son in the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
The Rezaei family decided to establish the team after UAE authorities continued to offer inconsistent accounts regarding Ahmad's death, said Omidvar Rezaiei, a member of Iran's Majlis (Parliament) Presiding Board.
The fact-finding team consists of Ahmad's family and a number of officials from Iran's Foreign Ministry and the Interpol, the lawmaker said.
He went on to say that the UAE government has plenty of evidence suggesting that Ahmad's death was suspicious and called on Dubai's police to provide all the relevant information to the Iranian fact-finding team.
An Iranian with dual citizenship, Ahmed Rezaei left Iran for the United States in 1998 and returned to the country five years later before departing again in 2009.
He was found dead in Dubai's Gloria Hotel on November 12, and his body was returned to Iran Thursday night.
In mid-November, the Emirati police initially reported that the son of Mohsen Rezaei, the current secretary of Iran's Expediency Council and a former presidential candidate, died in a hotel room in Dubai after he took doses of 'neurological medicines.
However, the police later claimed that Rezaei committed suicide with high-voltage power.
Meanwhile, forensic doctors with the Dubai police have said that the son of the senior Iranian official died after he slashed an arm vein.
In their latest account, the police reported that Ahmad's death was caused by an overdose of medication used to fight depression and schizophrenia.
According to the head of the Iranian consulate in Dubai, Ali Asghar Shafi'ee, three small cuts were seen on Ahmad's left arm upon further inspection, which could not constitute the cause of death.
